Vancouver Peace Poppies was started in 2008 with 50 handmade white poppies and now distributes over 4000 poppies annually across Canada. We will discuss this campaign to encourage Canadians to broaden their Remembrance Day focus to include the civilians who now make up 90% of conflict victims.
Vancouver Peace Poppies founders Teresa Gagné and Denis Laplante have been episodic peace and social justice activists since their teens. Since 2016 they have organized Let Peace be Their Memorial a November 11 wreath ceremony to commemorate refugees and other overlooked victims of war.
