Prepare for Pride! As Pride season begins, our GSA would like to share with you some of what we’ve been up to this year and invite you to upcoming events. Unitarians have had a long history of supporting LGBTQ+ rights and we may even want to brag a little.
Come and hear some stories from those who are involved as to why they think celebrating gender and sexuality diversity is important at UCV and everywhere. We’d like to hear your stories too and respond to any questions you may have.
Among those speaking will be Ursula Litzcke, Mairy Beam and Mary Bennett.
Since forming last year, UCV’s Genders and Sexualities Alliance members have met for social potlucks, a film screening and attended Out in Harmony’s choir concert.
About the GSA
All those interested in making our congregation (even) more welcoming to LGBTQ2SA+ persons are invited to join our newly formed Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA)*. This group plans to have regular (perhaps bi-monthly) socials open to all sexual orientations and gender expressions (including straight and cis-gender). As well as enjoying each others’ company and sharing our stories — and food — we will talk about the Unitarian Welcoming Congregation program and events we might sponsor.
You can read more about the Welcoming Congregation program here. The GSA is part of our Connect & Engage Team, a sub-team of the Membership Committee. *GSA has been the abbreviation for Gay-Straight Alliances which are popular in schools and universities. Some organizations are changing the name, but not the abbreviation, to Genders & Sexualities Alliance to ensure it makes it clear the group is open to all. Contact Mary for more info about GSA.
