Book Group – Swing Time by Zadie Smith

Sun, Oct 8, 2017 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Location
Large Meeting Room (Lindsey-Priestley)

The 2nd Sunday Book Group will meet on October 8, ’17 in the Lindsey-Priestley Room, Hewett Centre  from 12:30 – 2 PM to discuss Swing Time by Zadie Smith. Swing Time, Smith’s fifth novel, is about two girls with varying degrees of talent growing up on the wrong side of town. They face a myriad of constraints and opportunities influencing their forming identities, along with changing versions of success and failure as they strive to move forward in the world.  To quote Taiye Selasi,  the Guardian, Nov 13 ’16 , “Swing Time has brilliant things to say about race, class, and gender, but its most poignant comment is perhaps,,..given who we are, who we are told that we are not, and who we imagine we might become, how do we find our way home?”  Please join us.  Everyone Welcome.

This group discusses a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books – all suggested by group members who facilitate publicity and the group discussion. Check orders of service and UCV Events for upcoming books.

All are welcome.
