Giving to the Wider Community

Outreach Opportunities Fund

About OOF
UCV’s Outreach Opportunities Fund (OOF) was created in 2004 and modified in 2009 “to support organizations undertaking social justice, refugee support and settlement and environmental sustainability work with a focus on vulnerable or other marginalized communities”. A portion of each Sunday’s collection goes into this fund and grants under $3,000 are normally awarded each year.

For the most recent report, please see Outreach Opportunities Fund – 2015 on UCV Notes.

Helping Refugees

Sponsorship and much more
For many years the Refugee Committee has been helping refugees in profound ways. These dedicated individuals sponsor refugees, support them while they are proceeding through red tape in order to leave their current untenable homes, and help with all aspects of getting them settled once they arrive in Canada.

Environmental Activism

Focus on Burns Bog and BC rivers
The Environment Committee organizes the annual pilgrimage to Burns Bog, and has been active in bringing to our awareness the consequences of the provincial awarding of licences to private companies to develop power projects.

Thanksgiving Dinner

UCV Dams Dinner 01Volunteer UCV members take great pleasure in providing a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for downtown east side women and their families. They donate and cook turkey with all the trimmings, deliver and serve the food, and take care of the cleanup. In 2012 over 400 women were served.
