As the Wheel of the Year turns there are special or auspicious days, during which we can more easily touch the liminal.  February 1 is a cross quarter day half-way between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox and is known as Imbolc. It is sacred to (Saint) Brigid, who is, in Gaelic lore, the daughter of Dagda, one of the Tuatha de Dannan, a supernatural race: the Goddesses and Gods who are linked to the Natural World and to Humanity.  Brigid is renowned for her magical gifts of Healing and Craftsmanship. She is Patron of the Healing Arts, Divination, Magic, Poets, Bards, Smithcraft, Fertility, and Midwives. Fire, and purification are important parts of this festival as are watching for omens and divination.

Tarot Reading is one of many types of divination that can be done at this time of year.

Louise Bunn has a master’s degree in Myth, Cosmology and the Sacred from Canterbury Christ Church University and is a member and lay chaplain at the Unitarian Church.
